For our beneficiary

Amos and Miru.jpeg

We learnt from various organisations about the needs and gaps within the community.

The biggest issue that they face is the mindset and attitude of ex-offenders. Many of the ex-offenders level of motivation and behaviours at work, it hurts their chances when it comes to staying in employment.

We partnered and liaised with ReviveSG, an organisation made up by ex-offenders who share the same belief of supporting ex-offenders in their reintegration to society. We had insightful discussions with the organisation on how we could provide the best support to our beneficiary.

Together, we have planned and organised a life-mapping workshop conducted by one of their reformed ex-offender trainer. The purpose of which, is to get someone who have a similar experience and is able to share with our beneficiary about the consequence and the importance of having goals in life.

Challenges

Discipline and commitment of our beneficiary

We struggled with getting our ex-offender to attend the programmes we set out for him. This is in part due to him not being part of any external organisation and thus we did not have the right support to aid in that area.

"Lack of commitment is a normal occurrence considering the unstable background that they come from, which is a constant challenge that you guys (employers) will have to tackle"
- Muru, peer support mentor from reviveSG

What Didn't Work

Plans for training

Neglected a lot of plannings for our beneficiaries as our focus was more directed towards pushing him to take up events management responsibilities. Thus our social impact lacked in depth as a result.

Learned that it is important to cater our training to our beneficiary and to always be thorough in our planning for the sake of the social objective we serve.

What We Did Right

Received positive response from our beneficiary, who said he appreciated the opportunity to talk to ReviveSG.

Slight shift in mindset towards a positive direction, which if continued might be able to benefit him even more.

Our beneficiary was in action during our launch event, Geddit!, where he managed the vendors and interacted with the event attendees. He was also involved in the planning of Geddit!
